SULFROCK

INSTALLS & INSTRUCTIONS

SULFROCK MgS boards are durable, versatile building materials, renowned for their resistance to fire, moisture, and mould. Whether for residential, commercial, or high-rise projects, SULFROCK provides a reliable, long-lasting solution.

This guide walks you through everything you need for a professional installation.

TOOLS & MATERIALS

Having the right tools and materials ready makes installation quicker, safer, and more precise.

Essential Tools:

  • Measuring tools:
    Tape measure, square ruler

  • Cutting tools:
Utility knife, circular saw with carbide blade

  • Fastening tools:
    Drill, screwdriver, nail gun

  • Safety gear:
    Gloves, goggles, dust mask

Tip: Use dust-reducing methods like wet cutting to minimise airborne particles.

Required Materials:

  • SULFROCK MgS boards

  • Screws or nails (corrosion-resistant)

  • Joint compound or adhesive

  • Sealing materials: primer, waterproofing sealant

Note: Store materials in a dry, flat area to prevent warping or damage before installation.

PREPARING THE SURFACE

A clean, level, and well-marked surface ensures MgS boards adhere correctly and last longer.

Cleaning and Leveling:

  1. Remove dust, debris, and grease. For damp surfaces, consider a moisture barrier.

  2. Fill cracks or holes with a leveling compound and sand smooth.

  3. Ensure an even finish – MgS boards are brittle and can crack on uneven surfaces.

Tip: Skipping surface prep can compromise adhesion and board longevity.

ACCLIMATING THE BOARDS

Place MgS boards in the installation area for at least 48 hours to adjust to the environment. This prevents warping or expansion in humid areas.

Note: MgS boards are moisture-resistant but not waterproof. Avoid direct water contact until fully finished.

Marking and Measuring:

  1. Plan board placement and mark with pencil or chalk.

  2. Measure and mark cutting lines precisely using a tape measure and square.

  3. Double-check measurements to reduce waste and errors.

INSTALLATION & INFORMATION

STEP-BY-STEP INSTALLATION

Step 1: Cutting the Boards

  1. Measure and mark each board according to your layout.

  2. For thinner boards: score and snap with a utility knife.

  3. For thicker boards: use a circular saw with a carbide blade for precise cuts.

  4. Avoid jigsaws or angle grinders—they leave rough edges.

Tip: Always wear gloves, goggles, and a dust mask.

Step 2: Positioning and Fastening

  1. Place boards on the prepared surface, leaving a 6 mm gap from walls to allow expansion.

  2. Begin fastening at the centre and work outward. Space screws 200–250 mm apart.

  3. Keep screws at least 12 mm from edges and 50 mm from corners.

Note: Incorrect fastening can cause cracks, reduced holding power, or instability.

Step 3: Sealing and Finishing

  1. Apply joint compound or adhesive to seams and smooth evenly.

  2. Sand the surface once dry for a flawless finish.

  3. Apply primer, and for added protection in wet areas, use a waterproof sealant.

Pro Tip: High-quality paint or a transparent sealant not only enhances appearance but prolongs the lifespan of your MSB installation.

By following these steps; surface preparation, cutting, positioning, fastening and finishing, you’ll achieve a professional, long-lasting MSB installation, unlocking the full performance of SULFROCK boards.
